Perspective.
Perspective is the way that people view certain situations. It is the scenic outlook that a person has concerning a specific something. It is the filter and the base. It affects the way that people act and reason. It impacts what people do when they go into a situation, what happens during a situation, and it is realized on the other side of a situation.
Perspective is something that you always have, something you can never get away from.
As such, it really does affect us. Two people can have the exact same thing happen to them, but they will experience two totally separate things due to their perspective. Tom and Bill could both be let go from their jobs due to downsizing. Tom could become depressed and angry at God because he thought he served a God of blessings and care (based on his own perspectives of blessings and care). Bill could have faith that God has a plan in the midst of this and trust God with contentment in the present and hope and excitement for the future. Same situation. Different perspective.
But is one perspective better than the other?
Well, it depends on your perspective. Ha. Just kidding. No, really, it is hard to say. But as we try to emulate all of our lives to be like Christ, we need to extend that into our perspective, as well. So in addition to “What Would Jesus Do?” – we need to also ask ourselves “What Kind of Perspective Would Jesus Have” (the WKPWJH bracelets never really caught on…). He exemplified how we should view situations and the outlook we should have on life.
Want to learn more? Come up to The Hill and join us. It is just a group of young adults who hang out and talk about God and learn more about perspective. And we have cookies.
